A Day Without Art

What would life be like if there was no art? Can you imagine what that would be? Think about an average day. You wake up in the morning, maybe to music on your clock radio. Perhaps you read the paper or online news stories. Both the paper and internet have ads enhanced with graphic design. You dress in clothing conceived of by a designer, and perhaps adorn yourself with accessories and jewelry. Maybe you go out for breakfast to a restaurant with a creative menu. Art, or creative expression is everywhere.

Last weekend I visited a series of “open studios” in my area. The art ranged from blown glass, to paintings, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, handmade paper, and so much more. Not all the work was great, some was unique, thoughtful, playful, inspirational. The visual arts, the performing arts such as theater, spoken word, and dance, the written arts–literature, poetry, plays, and the ever-present movies or films, are all forms of creative expression that are so much a part of our lives that we really could not live with out them.

Of course, not everyone enjoys theater or poetry.

Some do not listen to music or read books. But the arts are the way we express and celebrate who we are. We learn about ourselves and others through the arts. Books, music and film transport us into other worlds. The arts carry our stories through history. Our ceremonies express our traditions. Our stories are our identities.

As an expressive arts’ therapist, I’ve used ritual, dreamwork, storytelling, collage, clay, sand tray and drawing to help people deal with life’s challenges. The process of doing art is healing in itself, and the finished product gives the maker a sense of completion and even pride.

Some people think the arts are frivolous.

In fact, the arts as creative expression give the art maker a sense of self. They give the viewer or listener meaning and they feed our imaginations. Einstein said, “Imagination is more important than knowledge.” Who would argue with one of the world’s greatest thinkers.

Art Glass Paperweights

I have a shop that sells art glass. My favourite artwork glass is paperweights. I’ve a whole lot of enjoyable attending artwork auctions and shopping for art glass. I attempt to pay attention to what my mates and purchasers like and dislike.

I usually give individuals art glass paperweights that I discover at art auctions for milestone birthdays and anniversaries. My grandmother turned eighty final October and I discovered a wonderful art glass paperweight for her.

The art glass paperweight that I discovered for my grandmother was made by Baccarat. I used to be extraordinarily fortunate that this was one of many last things auctioned. A lot of people had already left the art public sale when this item went on the block. My grandmother appreciated the pansy design as a result of the pansy is her favourite flower.

My cousin loves frogs.

She has managed to brighten her residence tastefully with her favourite item. I have been looking out for an artwork glass paperweight for her for years. I lastly discovered one at an artwork public sale I used to be at last year. The artwork glass paperweight featured a frog sitting on a lily pad and the frog was surrounded by blue water. It was actually pretty and my cousin started utilizing it on her desk immediately.

My aunt collects art glass paperweights. I have been requested by her on numerous events to seek out pretty artwork glass paperweights for her whereas I am attending artwork auctions. Of the entire items I’ve won for her over time, one memory sticks out in my memory more than any other.

By far the prettiest artwork glass paperweight I’ve ever received at an art auction needs to be one which contains a blue and gold Macaw.

Rick Ayotte was the artist that created it and it was even featured in a book of his work. He has created many pretty artwork glass paperweights.

I have an art glass paperweight in my shop that just will not sell. It has been within the retailer the longest and I believe I may have it priced too high. I received the paperweight at an artwork public sale several years in the past for one thousand dollars. The paperweight was created by Paul Stankard and it ought to have simply offered for twice what I paid for it.

I’ve no bother at all promoting art glass paperweights that were made by Rick Ayotte. His work appears to attract the most interest. I attempt to win any public sale I find for art glass paperweights he made. I received one not long ago that was pink roses. They regarded so delicate and sweet. I do know that this art glass paperweight will sell quickly.

There have been some inquiries at my shop for artwork glass paperweights by Richard Marquis. I have never discovered any in any of the artwork auctions I’ve attended recently. I checked out a few of the items he is made and I am not especially impressed.

I will hold looking for the art glass paperweights at the art auctions I attend, but I cannot be going way out of my solution to track them down. I will simply do not forget that Marquis is an artist that some of my shoppers are really interested in. I am certain that I will find an art auction with certainly one of his pieces in it at some point.

There have been some inquiries about nautical themed artwork glass paperweights a couple of years in the past and I discovered an improbable artist that made them. I buy every art glass paperweight I can find that was made by Rick Satava. My favourite must be the coral orange jellyfish that I discovered at an art auction an hour from my home. It was really pretty.

The coral orange jellyfish artwork glass paperweight was just the first Rick Satava piece that I’ve found at numerous art auctions. I’ve also discovered jellyfish in ruby and blue. They’re lovely by themselves or when they’re put onto a black gentle stand that has been built particularly for them.

Benefits Of Martial Arts
There are dozens of martial arts all over the world. Almost every culture has produced a system of self-defense thats been passed down from generation to generation. Some people may be reluctant to visit their local dojo because of false assumptions about the practice, while others are intimidated or have negative pre-conceived notions about martial arts. Here are five ways martial arts can give you a happier and more fulfilling life.

Self Defense

This is the most obvious benefit that martial arts can give you. All of them, from karate and judo, to muay thai to jiu jitsu, and even tai chi, were originally conceived to help ancient warriors fight better and live longer. While six months of training wont turn you into Bruce Lee, it may give you the edge you need to survive, should you find yourself in a dangerous situation.

Discipline

Martial arts instill discipline in every participant who progresses from the novice stage. Learning and practicing various movements take plenty of time and effort, requiring dedication and discipline. Its simply impossible to get better without the self-discipline needed to advance. This is a character trait that becomes intrinsic after sufficient time has passed. It carries over to other aspects of your life, like the work place or your family, where self-discipline can help you excel.

Stress Relief

The fast pace of the modern world has produced multiple sources of stress that our parents never had to deal with. Stress related illnesses are legion and everyone can use some relief in their lives. Martial arts can be used as an effective alternative health option to deal with stress. It gives us a comfortable and legal setting where we can release the days frustrations safely.

Self-confidence

As you spend time on your individual journey in the world of martial arts, you hit milestones, accomplishments and experiences that you are invariably proud of giving you a better view of yourself. This healthy dose of self-confidence will also show through other aspects of your life. It is a proven alternative health remedy for treating low self-esteem among many people around the world.

Exercise

Martial arts are a superb source of aerobic as well as anaerobic exercise. Sparring, doing forms, and strengthening routines are effective alternative health activities designed to get you sweating and your heart pumping.

Chinese Martial Arts
Throughout the world, Chinese martial arts are well known and well respected. China is a pioneer to martial arts, founding several excellent styles. Although Kung Fu is the most well known Chinese martial art, there are others that are just as good. Below, we will look at some of the other Chinese martial arts that arent as well known as Kung Fu.

HSING-I
This is actually one of the internal styles of Kung Fu, very closely in relation to Tai Chi. It teaches students to subordinate their bodies, creating powerful movements with a very little expense of energy. HSING-I isnt well known about, although it is very powerful and well known throughout China. The United States and other areas arent that familiar with it, with little to no schools or dojos out there that teach it.

Just like Tai Chi, HSING-I has deep roots in Chinese medicine and the Chinese perceptions of nature. The blows that come from HSING-I come from the five elements of the Chinese – metal, fire, earth, water, and wood. Similar to other forms that originate from Kung Fu, HSING-I offers complex, dance like movements that are adapted from the way animals react and move. Due to the training being so demanding and rigorous, and the breathing exercises being so demanding, those who practice this martial art have astounding physical skills and amazing endurance.

Tai Chi
To those who live outside of China, Tai Chi resembles more of a dance. The slow and calm movements it teaches are balanced and exact, performed while the stylist is in a deep state of relaxation. While in this deep state of relaxation, the stylist will be fully aware of what he is doing and his movements, although he will appear to those around him to be asleep.

In reality, Tai Chi is an energy exercise that promotes strength, stamina, and flexibility. By using the deep state of relaxation, Tai Chi enables stylists to benefit emotionally and spiritually as well. Tai Chi also uses deep states of mediation as well, helping stylists to learn how to reach their high level of peace.

Chinese martial arts
Even though Kung Fu is the best martial art in China, there are many different forms and styles that originate from it. There is the Shaolin style as well, which offers several different styles of Kung Fu as well, including the world famous 5 animals system. The five animals system is among the most popular in China and well known around the world for their devastating techniques and amazing power when used in combat.

Along with Kung Fu, both HSING-I and Tai Chi are great martial arts that help with endurance training and flexibility. A lot of Kung Fu students in China choose to study one of these arts as well, as it helps to add to their physical and emotional power. Students who study Tai Chi or HSING-I as well as Kung Fu, have a higher state of endurance and spirituality that simply cannot be matched.

All around the world, China is well known for martial arts. China brought Kung Fu and Tai Chi to the world, which is something we are all thankful for. Even though Japan offers their unique blend of martial arts, many consider China to be the founding father of martial arts. The Chinese have been using martial arts for hundreds of years – providing just how dominant it can be as a means of self defense and a way to live your life in a peaceful manner.

The Art of Kendo

Kendo, a form of martial arts, has a lot of different movements which during execution are greatly given emphasis. The movements involved may seem easy because one can easily learn the right footwork, the right swing and the right posture. The concept of this martial art is based on reflex. The difference is that shinai, which is a form of weapon, is used as an extension of the practictioners body. For one to be able to master this, he has to practice performing these actions a thousand times over.

Kendo is a Japanese style of fencing derived during the Meiji period in Japan (1868-1912), from the two-handed sword fighting techniques of the samurai. Today kendo, which means “way of the sword”, is practiced with shinai (bamboo swords), and fighters wear protective equipment covering the target areas: the head, wrists, and abdomen. The bogu (protective gear) consists of a men (face mask), a do (breastplate), kote (fencing gloves), and the tare, a kind of apron to protect the stomach and hips.

Under the protective gear, kendoka (students of kendo) wear a hakama, or wide split skirt, reaching the ankles. Their uniform is the embodiment of the Samurai spirit and can be paralleled with the European knights who wear metal armors. The weapon used in Kendo is the shinai, or bamboo sword. The shinai is approximately four feet in length and is made of four carefully formed bamboo slats bound together to form hollow cylinder. A cord runs along the length of the shinai. To make a valid cut a player must strike his opponent with the side opposite the cord. In addition the point must be struck with the top third of the shinai. The concept of Kendo is to discipline the human character through the application of the principles of the Katana.

Nowadays, there are Kendo dojos or schools all over the world. You would think that with this set-up, this martial art would become Westernized or tainted with impurities. That is not the case, however. The technical level of the martial art has remained excellent regardless of where a dojo is located. There is a worldwide uniformity of the basics of the art. Whether it’s in America or whether it’s in Europe, the fundamentals being taught are the same. It is only in the advanced training wherein the differences in certain schools become evident. But such disparity is not vital to the elements of the martial art. The 1970s paved the way for international competitions to become more available to Kendo followers. Nowadays, there are more than fifty countries in the international competition circuit.

With Kendo, one can learn discipline, good manners, etiquette and patience which are very important virtues that we can apply in our daily lives. Though these values can be learned from other martial arts form, there is a value that you can only learn from Kendo – once you attack, you keep constant pressure by striking the opponent nonstop. In our lives, we apply this by “striking while the iron is hot”.

Are you looking for Kendo equipment? You’ve got quite a range of martial arts supplies in the market to choose from, whether you want one of those martial arts uniforms or instructional materials.

The art of giving
The art of giving

Do you know what the power of giving is? Do you realize that you have to learn how to give to be able to get? How the art of giving can benefit you?

One of the wealthiest people in Canada John had almost everything a person could ask for, however, he was not happy. Despite all the wealth, family, and friends John has in his life, he didn’t have peace of mind. Therefore, he went on a journey to find happiness

When John’s friend Mike heard his story, he informed him that he lacked spirituality in his life, so Mike took his friend John to a place for the handicapped children. John who is wealthy and successful started to teach the children his thoughts, ideas, and how he achieved all the success in his life. Within 6 months, 4 of the children who couldn’t walk started to walk, which in return made John very happy and helped him achieve peace of mind.

All what John did was practice the art of giving by sharing his knowledge to those children, but in return, he changed their lives in a positive way for ever. Do you see what the power of giving does?

Benefits of giving
Increased happiness
Helping yourself and others
Putting a smile on yourself and others
Increased compassion
The Art of giving

If your goal is to learn the art of giving, follow the quick guide below:

1. Give a smile

Around two years ago while I was at my old job, one of my colleagues asked me “Why do you always smile?” I said to her that when I smile at people, I help make people become at ease, lift up their moods and at the same time I attract harmonious relationships with others.

All I was doing giving a real and authentic smile, in return, I attract polite and friendly people and help others feel good.

2. Give kindness

In my book “How to win your lover’s heart” I mentioned that when couples get into arguments, usually each one tries to prove the other one wrong hence the problems escalate. If you learn to practice kindness, rather than being right, you will find that your relationship will improve dramatically.

Make giving kindness a habitof yours and you will see how the outer world will be kind to you in return.

3. Give money

One of my friends who make over 0,000 a year works 7 days a week. He gives what he makes on the weekend all to his family such as his uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and other members of his family. When I asked him the reason he does this. He said that “the more he gives, the more money God will give him.” My friend realized what the power of giving is hence he applied it in his life.

This is a very true concept in life including money. Every time you give out money, think of it as sowing. The more you sow, the more you get back.

4. Give knowledge

Giving others knowledge is one of the most powerful types of giving you can give. Whatever knowledge you have, learn to share it with others.

If you know how to sing, share that knowledge of how you can control your voice and breathe properly with others who are interested in singing. If you know how to help someone see the positive in situations instead of the negative, please do so. The more you start applying the art of giving in your life, the better it is for you and for the world.

Always remember what Winston S.

Churchill said, “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”

http://www.2achieveyourgoals.com

Do you know that only 3% of the world’s population manage to plan and reach their goals? The main goal for 2achieveyourgoals.com is to help you become from the top 3% of the world’s population who know how to achieve any goal they desire in all areas of life. If you have a specific goal that you want to accomplish or want to improve an area of your life, but do not know how or why you are not getting any result, then this is the place for you.

Art Basel Miami Beach is an international fair of contemporary art taking place in early December in various Miami neighborhoods. Analogous to a similar event in Switzerland which it has now eclipsed in size and importance, Art Basel Miami Beach attracts over 40,000 attendees each year, many from outside the Miami area.

Not all who come are interested in the art so much as the partying that accompanies it. Dinner parties, movie screenings, beach get-togethers are de rigueur here. Vanity Fair sponsored a party for Bruce Weber’s Haiti pictures, Maybach (the uber car maker) underwrote a dinner in the Frank Gehry Performing Arts Center on behalf of Haitian relief (Sean Penn was the guest of honor), and others could be found sponsored by assorted banks, jewelry and fashion companies. Partying into the wee hours was the rule, and celebrities of all sorts were much in evidence.

This is not to say that the art didn’t sell. One painting by Cuban artist Wilfredo Lam went for a record (for him) of ,000,000. Tim Hawkinson’s Bike went for 0,000, and 11 bread sculptures by the breakout artist Lisa Cooley went for 00-00 each. Pawel Althamer , a Polish sculptor who explores the fragility of the human body and has used hair, straw, intestine, and cloth-visceral materials in his works, sold out 10 new corpse sculptures early in the event. A rhinocerous head made out of beetle parts sold for 0,000.

It seems like the rich and the famous are still willing to part with their money for the right kinds of works. It doesn’t hurt that the cachet of being seen at this event seems to be growing, and the whole event is being taken as a barometer of the financial health of monetary elite. Many well known celebrities are showing up here, including Steve Martin, Jonathan Tisch (Loew’s Hotel Chef), the painter Julian Schnabel who donated a number of his works at Penn’s Haitian relief event, Ben Stiller, Calvin Klein, Jay-Z, George Hamilton, Serena Williams and many more.

Nor was it just art and sculpture on display. There were videos, experimental films, photographs and performance art. One video showed a vulture stumbling about in a room knocking over assorted items and chewing on post-it paper. Another had Russian girls singing folk songs climbing up a five-story high metal sculpture and pouring liquid down chutes, then repeating the process. Still, with over 5,000 works by 1000 artists from all over the world, priced from just a few hundred all the way up to millions of dollars, it seemed that there was something for everyone’s taste and budget.

Fine Art Photography- An Abstract Art

Light is considered to be one important element in photography that helps in giving different effects on photos. Photos taken in natural light or in warm glow of incandescent light, the camera captures the effect of light on the objects and subjects. Though light is an integral part of every type of photography, in fine art photography it plays an important role in setting the mood and giving the texture to its subjects and props. Professional photographer understands how the lens and eye perceive the light color spectrum and therefore make complete use of light in photography. Natural light due to its inconsistent lighting projects different shades of the color spectrum. Where as, at sunrise and sunset the red portion of the spectrum produces warmer pictures with a softer contrast.

The direction of lighting in photography helps in creating different effects on the pictures. The different angles of light create different shadows and helps in changing the appearance of the subject.
